Surgical management of skull base chondroblastoma.
OBJECTIVES Chondroblastoma is a rare tumor accounting for 1% of primary bone tumors. Chondroblastoma involving the skull base is exceedingly rare with approximately 60 cases reported. We reviewed our experience with chondroblastoma of the skull base with an emphasis on current lateral skull base approaches and long-term tumor control. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING A retrospective case review at a ...
متن کاملCASE REPORT Chondroblastoma of the Temporal Bone Removed by Utilizing a Replicated Model as a Navigator
Chondroblastoma is a rare tumor which constitutes 1 % of the primary bone tumors . It most frequently arises from the epiphysis of the long bone. Involvement of the temporal bone is rare. Complete removal is a challenge due to anatomical complexity of the involved area including the middle ear and skull base. We encountered a case of temporal bone chondroblastoma that was safely removed by usin...
متن کاملSuccessful Function-Preserving Therapy for Chondroblastoma of the Temporal Bone Involving the Temporomandibular Joint
We present a case involving a late diagnosis of chondroblastoma of the temporal skull base involving the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Following an initial misdiagnosis and unsuccessful treatment over a period of 5 years, the patient was referred to our department for further evaluation and possible surgical intervention for occlusal abnormalities, trismus, clicking of the TMJ, and hearing imp...
متن کاملTemporal Chondroblastoma with a Novel Chromosomal Translocation (2;5) (q33;q13)
The case of a 51-year-old man with a large temporal mass is presented. The mass eroded the floor of the middle fossa medially to the sphenoid sinus. A combined approach with neurosurgery and otolaryngology was performed to achieve maximal resection of the mass. Pathology was typical for chondroblastoma: a rare, benign but locally invasive chondroid tumor. Genetic testing revealed a translocatio...
متن کاملClival lesion incidentally discovered on cone-beam computed tomography: A case report and review of the literature
An osteolytic lesion with a small central area of mineralization and sclerotic borders was discovered incidentally in the clivus on the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of a 27-year-old male patient. This benign appearance indicated a primary differential diagnosis of non-aggressive lesions such as fibro-osseous lesions and arrested pneumatization. Further, on magnetic resonance imaging (MR...
